Public Hearing for Proposed Water Rate Increase

Calaveras Public Utility District (District) initiated a proposed rate increase in April 2019. The current rates have been in place since 2012 with the last increase in July 2016. The current rate structure is not sufficient to meet the budgetary needs of the District.

Customers were noticed in April and the District held two informational meetings in May to allow the public the opportunity to learn more about the proposed new rate structure. Read the meetings summary here.

The original hearing date to consider adopting the proposed rate increase was postponed from June 11, 2019 to August 13, 2019. The change in schedule is a result of the District’s Board of Directors vote on June 5, 2019 to re-notice the Public Hearing for the proposed rate increase.  At the June 18, 2019 meeting, the Board of Directors amended the guidelines of the resolution to allow protests by tenants to be submitted in connection with rate hearings. The public received an updated Prop 218 notice about the new hearing date which was mailed on June 24, 2019. A copy may be viewed here. The proposed rates are the same as were previously noticed for the June 11, 2019 hearing.

All written protests and testimony submitted in connection with the June 11, 2019 hearing shall be considered by the District to be a part of the record of the rescheduled hearing.
